Hit the Golf Ball on the Upswing

Keep most of your weight (about two-thirds) on your left foot. This will prevent your body moving back when you swing, if this happens you will hit the ball on the upswing increasing the chances of a mis-hit. Golf is a game of opposites - you need to hit down on the ball to get it up in the air! Keeping your weight on the left side ensures a strike on the downswing.

Likewise in golf, the course architect will have placed obstacles in your way to hinder your progress on your way to the green. The trick is to foresee what the course designer had in mind when he laid out this particular hole. All the obstacles between you and the green have been place in a strategic and logical manner. It is up to you to decide whether you are going to have 'a go' with the driver or avoid the architect's snare and tee off with a lesser club.

To put rhythm in to your backswing and downswing you need to be relaxed at address. When practicing, try to work to a rhythm or a beat just like a metronome. Pace yourself and think of your swing as a one-two motion. Say the words aloud as you swing and make 'one' your backswing and change in direction to the downswing and 'two' your movement through the ball to a controlled finish.

From the top of the backswing the downswing should be initiated by a turning of the hips to the left. The shoulders and arms and then hands should follow to release power in to the impact area. This chain reaction creates great speed in the downswing and pulls the golfer through to a correct finish.

Develop a Routine - Now I know this is one of those free golf driving tips you hear all the time, but have you taken the time to do it? You need to develop a natural repeatable routine that you will use in preparation for your shot. Don't just go through the motion; get focused on what you want to happen when you take your swing. See it in your mind's eye.
